You know what else bothers me about this book, is that Alex can't tell Polly about the inheritance details or his terrible evil in laws. Like what is even stopping him from revealing why he needs to make the mill profitable. How does that even have anything to do with trust?

I remember now why I gave this book only 2 stars. It has such promise! But the imbalance of power between Polly and Alex really makes it a weaker story and kind of a distasteful love story.

Lofty has the plot hinge on this massively important premise of 2 million dollars inheritance if the company performs better in 2 years and we are just supposed to take her word on it that the characters are learning about the industry. We don't get shown that at all! We just get occasional "x character went to the office. It was a long day." This series suffers from a lack of detail.

Polly is amazing. She is such a well crafted character, you can tell that Lofty had her in mind for forever as a character, her motivations and personality are so great, I just wish Alex was more consistent with better motivation. I wish that we had more insight into how Alex makes the mill a better place. He has been there for six months and no information.

You know what the problem is with this book? That there isn't enough back story on the mill. Alex isn't entirely fleshed out either. He is supposed to be this brute under academia, but I don't quite believe it. The father in law feels like a cheap reason for conflict, and I feel like Alex, and better yet Alex's father should have handled this earlier.
