i have two reviews for RK books shadowbanned (one of them the only 5 star review for her book that I have ever written 🤡🤡🤡) and it's making me feel ✨restless✨.

why couldn't they pick reviews that took me 5 mins to write instead of coming after the ones that took effort? 🤡

officially hate Goodreads you son of a bitchhhh in heat

⚔Irunía⚔ @C.K @Kristina, it means that these reviews are "invisible", they cannot be seen on the book's page alongside others 👿

Wow that stinks. I look at positive and negative reviews a lot of times when deciding to read a book.

Shaikha Bitch GR how dare they do this to my queen 😠😠😠

JD (on semi-hiatus) That really is too bad, Irunía! Curious if GR told you why? I've never had a book shadowbanned, but I have had GR take down 4 of my reviews. They did give me reasons, but I didn't find them convincing.

For the first, they said that I wasn't commenting on the book (my review was about the cover, which I'm pretty sure is actually part of any book). For the second, they claimed that I attacked a reader, even though she first left comments on my review which were very racist. Curious if they did anything to her? Probably not. In my reviews for the 3rd and 4th, I said that I passed on them because the author's groupies had attacked me here and on other social media (I didn't rate these books, just left a pass and why). I feel that not reading an author who allows her fans to attack other readers is perfectly justifiable.

I realize that GR has a TOS so even though I don't agree with these reasons, I would be okay with them if they weren't so inconsistently enforced. Multiple reviews for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, for example, mention that they're skipping the book because they think the author is transphobic. Those reviews -- which are not about the book -- are still up.

I fully support removing reviews that doxx, threaten violence, and/or contain offensive (prejudiced) language, but otherwise I've come to believe that GR simply takes down reviews others have complained about because that's easiest for them. They never addressed my complaints that one author consistently attacks me in her blog (which she links to her GR account) so GR really does pick and choose their battles.

Sorry for the long rant!

Hope you're well and that the new school year is off to a good start.

JD

⚔Irunía⚔ @JD, to answer your question, I think those reviews haven't been shadowbanned on purpose. Many of my friends experience the same problem and we blame the recent GR update for hiding our reviews. Seemingly there's no logic behind hiding some of the reviews (pretty positive and harmless get shadowbanned too), it must be a glitch. I contacted GR support and they basically told me that many other reviewers reported the same issue and they're trying to fix this.

+ I've just checked and now these reviews are visible on the community page again. Some of my friends said it can happen if some ppl like/comment on them again. Apparently, this helped in my case!

I wholeheartedly agree with you about GR being inconsistent. I have a few stories of my own to share as well in case you're interested:

📍 I defended my friend under her review. The commentor basically called her thoughts stupid and said she has the emotional maturity of a toaster so she has no no business reviewing the book and yada yada. Lol. I decided to clown her right back and launched a personal attack because apparently I'm not a "better" person and I wanted to have some fun at her expense so I basically copied her comment and redirected her insult:

"chanele, your name is so ugly, couldn't even read n copy it w/o wincing because you sound like a stuck-up loser. leave commenting to ppl with beautiful names xx"

A day passed and my comment was deleted by GR (and another one that was much nicer but also in response to this commentor, made by another person too) because of ad hominem attack. Do I agree with this? Absolutely, yes. But the irony of that bitch reporting the comment that attacks her personally after she did the same to someone else.

😂 That was funny as hell. As a part of experiment, I reported her comments too but surprise surprise they're still up. 🤡🤡🤡

📍 Recently I realized one of my reviews has been deleted altogether and it's the craziest thing ever because it's an innocent 4 star review where I don't discuss author/readers/cover or anything besides the book. It's just a praise for a smutty book lmao. I have so many questionable reviews that might want to make ppl report them and they deleted that one?

📍 I have that one review that ppl hate to love or love to hate, I've received multiple bashing comments under it (there's rape in that book, I gave it 5 stars and I talked about the rape scene in detail too). I was being called a rape apologist (it's just a classic insult at this point) and I'm sure it has been reported multiple times because I openly admitted to liking problematic stuff but the review is still up lmao and at the top of community page. 🤡 One of these commentors who gave the book 1 star accused me of spoiling the story in the review (apparently providing triggers equates to spoiling a book 🤡) and when I mocked her for her "demand" to tag the spoiler she kept commenting and saying how she has already reported my review to Goodreads for breaking TOS. I knew she was just salty that I liked the book while she hated it with a passion. There are multiple other top reviewers who indeed spoiled the majority of events in the story apart from rape but she didn't obsess over them coz they also gave it 1 star. But Goodreads didn't care to delete my review regardless. 😂🌚🌚

So I suspect they don't delete just any review that has been reported. There's certainly some fucked up logic behind it. For some reason they don't delete reviews that point out the author is transphobic (Rowling) or a trumpie (Danielle lori) but completely innocent ones that have a direct connection to the book like those that complain about covers do get deleted. Also, as far as I understand reviews that point out racism can be deleted too apparently??

P.s. likewise, i wish you a good start to a new studying year! I've missed my studies so I'm very happy to be back 😌

⚔Irunía⚔ @JD, also remember that big clown confrontation some of us had with the creepy male author? (ace McNeil erotic storm or whatever). My review that only talked about his behaviour was shadowbanned after clearly being reported, but a few months ago it was randomly unshadowbanned and updated by Goodreads, 🤡 Literally no one cares about that review or that crappy book anymore..why? GR staff are clowns and I stand by that

Yes, I remember that! I couldn't believe that GR was concerned about your review when they had allowed a serial harasser back on their site! In fairness to them, at least they banned him (again).

Even though what happened to you this time was a glitch, GR should have told you why they took down the "innocent 4-star" review you mention.

And, yes, GR cares more about what they characterize as ad hominen attacks than racism. The review that only concentrated on the cover (I mentioned this in my comment) is an example of that. I objected to the Confederate flag; according to GR, this isn't relevant. Pointing out racism is never not relevant. Can't believe I even have to say this.

I think GR is more likely to take down a review when the complaint is from someone prominent (like an author) or it receives multiple complaints. But this cuts both ways: they do leave some problematic reviews up that have lots of likes and comments (doubtless the reason the "love to hate" review you mentioned is still up). I was surprised that GR didn't delete one review I wrote since I do spend a lot of time talking about the author's behavior towards me (I mention her above) -- that one, however, has several comments.

School year thus far is going okay. I have an extra-heavy class load so will be busy!
