This isn't everything I look for in a book but I don't usually read children's so that's probably why it falls flat. Buttt I have to say usually YA protagonist piss me off but this one doesn't and no agitating YA tropes, that I noticed anyway.

Plan to read sequel. Actually, the sample for it is v. good, think it'll be better than the first book. All and all, too children's for me to fully appreciate, with some plot discrepancies that probably comes w/ out-aging the book and asking 'why' too much. Pretty happy w/ character depth, prose, and living up to dark fantasy elements. Should I review? Hm.

It also is becoming horrific which is nice as the earlier horror wasn't enough for me. Recent events were really disturbing. Lastly, I really hope the plot questions I have are cleared up by the end ... that would be the tipping point.
