The first half was no fun really, and its ending was out of place. Albeit, I know the writer was trying to show "friendly neighborhood spiderman" but didn't seem consistent with story.
It was a forced quick tale that needed more pages to really hit home. A cliffhanging 2 parter would've been better. More character setup and a longer climatic battle.

4 of 5 stars - Gauntlet Origins Vulture
Bounced back-n-forth on 4 or 5 stars because I loved how writer (and artist) displayed that Toomes ain't no joke. They showed he's not just some crazy old man who wants to be young. He's an inventor and got some pull because he clever and resourceful. End up going 4 stars because it felt to Lex Luther-ish for the character. I may shine my ignorance on Toomes' detailed smartness

Yes! All day and everyday!
SPOILER
The man behind Rhino trying to break from the confines of destiny as part of Spidey's rogue gallery, to only be thrust back into the life is a Spiderman story. Its a Marvel tale. You so want Aleksei to succeed at normal. And you hate the fates twisted his soul to keep him a villain. Superb arc. I wanted more of that story.

Had some good classic spidey moments (like last ish), which sadly morphed into cliche. Peter was so quick to (uncharacteristically) fake a photo to help someone (though his intent was characteristic), it paved the "unlucky Peter" trope, which lessened the whole schpiel. Liked sourpuss keeping to his integrity, a lot. And again, the villain, just didn't do it for me.

Felt a little all over the place. And who is this fly impersonating Vulture? Using the name makes no sense for this antagonist. And story feels to connected with predecessor; so many questions requiring me to read what came before this issue to fully grasp this tale. All the whodunit and why, plus the mystery behind the scenes players schtick felt fake and baseless.

Who would have thought that a story about the Peter-bullying-jock would be great? And around a contrived plot built around stages of grief, no less? But it was great seeing regular guy down on his luck reaching out for help and spidey trying to do so before ominous bad happens. Kinda brings back hope in the good within folks.

I like the "anyone can be a politician these days" trope :-)
We all know sourpuss is slick, quick-witted, and an opportunist when it comes to slamming spidey.
SPOILER
So, turning his own creepy stalker into a minion in order to get at spidey is not really surprising. The story had nothing that gravitated me. Not a tale of J Jonah that was needed, or wanted.
