Heroine got interesting when she loses temper at shopkeeper who won't sell her book because she is female. But I have problems with the language. At one point hero uses the word "dominatrix" in a context that would not have been used in Regency England. Not easing for the author to write dialogue like Austen or Heyer, but could she at least lessen the use of words that were clearly not used in the same way we do now

My first regency romance from Julia Quinn. So far have only read Gaelen Foley, so I'm adjusting to the shorter sentences, more light dialogue and less historical cultural references. Wonder did they actually say "smashing" during those times, and does it mean the same thing as it does now?
