Then there was a great round loaf, and a plate of biscuits and cheese, and bottles of pickles, and in fact everything you could think of. A great brown teapot was standing on a side table” (111).

I’m a sucker for these kinds of descriptions. 🤣

A reference to George Grossmith! His son was a classmate of Ernest’s.

This is interesting…Shepard and PG Wodehouse are near contemporaries (two years apart), and I’m finding some insight into Wodehouse’s novels already in Shepard’s memoir. Like cats-meat, which was delivered to neighborhoods at this time and is the nickname of a Wodehouse character.
