That was... kind of out of nowhere. It's strange to get around four fifths of the way through a book before knowing who the villain is.

I really like how everybody's aware that the spells they're doing are stupid. It's kind of refreshing compared to a lot of fantasy that insists on being taken seriously despite being... well, not serious.

This feels very much like it was inspired by Buffy. Except with less snark. But Anna is king of like a more interesting version of Angel.

Hmm... that last sequence didn't go as well as it could've. Because of the way it was written, I think Blake thinks it was somehow subversive, but it seemed pretty typical to me - drunken idiots break off from a party and go into an abandoned house where they're faced with a ghost that none of them understand, and one of them dies. There are a few interesting details, but the framework is same old, same old.

This is... alright, I suppose. It certainly has the potential to be good. I'm just not very far in yet.

Ghosts! I enjoy them, and I don't read enough books about them. I hope this ends up being a good one.
