"I just read the last story in the book, and it was rather nice. There are a lot of remarkable people whose stories are documented here." Apr 25, 2018 09:16PM

"This is actually pretty interesting. It's a bit too abstract for my taste, but there's something that appeals to me about the idea of trying to categorize actions and create a framework for judging what we should do and why. I guess you could argue that it's too reductionist, but it appeals to how I want to think about these issues." Feb 04, 2018 09:03AM

"Not much has changed (I had to read very new little for this particular assignment). The only new thing I have to say is that it's weird how many of these books about diplomacy emphasize the importance of the ability to eat anything." Mar 04, 2019 02:04PM

David Levithan
“We have defied the day as it was set out for us.”
David Levithan, Every Day

Malinda Lo
“Kissing Amber was like falling into the sea: Her body surrendered to the pull of the tide, buoyed by the saltwater, every breath tasting like the ocean. Reese lost all sense of where the surface was. All there was, was this. Amber’s lips, her tongue, her hands stroking back Reese’s hair, curling around her head and holding her steady. If their first kiss had been a bit awkward, that was gone now.”
Malinda Lo, Adaptation

Milena Veen
“It seemed to me that life was a giant ice skating rink, and I was the only one who didn’t have skates. Most people fear death. I don’t. I’m only afraid of not living. I don’t want to be the one behind the ice rink fence, watching other people having fun.”
Milena Veen, Just Like a Musical

Patrick Ness
You must speak the truth and you must speak it now, Conor O'Malley. Say it. You must.

Conor shook his head again, his mouth clamped shut tight, but he could feel a burning in his chest, like a fire someone had lit there, a miniature sun, blazing away and burning him from the inside.

“It'll kill me if I do,” he gasped.

It will kill you if you do not, the monster said. You must say it.
Patrick Ness, A Monster Calls

Milena Veen
“I am an inexhaustible source of awkwardness.”
Milena Veen, Just Like a Musical
