"I just read the last story in the book, and it was rather nice. There are a lot of remarkable people whose stories are documented here." — Apr 25, 2018 09:16PM

"This is actually pretty interesting. It's a bit too abstract for my taste, but there's something that appeals to me about the idea of trying to categorize actions and create a framework for judging what we should do and why. I guess you could argue that it's too reductionist, but it appeals to how I want to think about these issues." — Feb 04, 2018 09:03AM

"Not much has changed (I had to read very new little for this particular assignment). The only new thing I have to say is that it's weird how many of these books about diplomacy emphasize the importance of the ability to eat anything." — Mar 04, 2019 02:04PM

“It seemed to me that life was a giant ice skating rink, and I was the only one who didn’t have skates. Most people fear death. I don’t. I’m only afraid of not living. I don’t want to be the one behind the ice rink fence, watching other people having fun.”

“I believe it’s incredibly important to write against [racial] stereotypes. If we give in and make sure that all black women characters are asexual, gentle, and kind we wind up with another set of stereotypes.”

“Julian was always trying to convince her that E.T. had already visited Earth multiple times. One night in Dolores Park, while they were hanging out on the swings in the playground, Julian told her about meeting an alien abductee in Golden Gate Park the weekend before.
"He had an implant in his lower back - he totally showed me the scar and everything," Julian said [...].
"Yeah, I'm sure that's what he was showing you."[...]
"You're just jealous you didn't get to see his ass.”

“Kissing Amber was like falling into the sea: Her body surrendered to the pull of the tide, buoyed by the saltwater, every breath tasting like the ocean. Reese lost all sense of where the surface was. All there was, was this. Amber’s lips, her tongue, her hands stroking back Reese’s hair, curling around her head and holding her steady. If their first kiss had been a bit awkward, that was gone now.”
