This definitely reads more like a history book than a work of fiction. There is little to no dialogue so far which makes it very dry, but it's also very interesting. I liked learning about how Seven Kingdoms came to be under Aegon Targaryen I, his dragons, his sister-wives, how the Iron Throne was made. I'm watching the show on HBO right now and it doesn't have them in it, it takes place after, so it's all new.

The story of King Jahaerys I was where I really got into the story, and it was a long on. Now I am into where the TV show starts with King Viscerys and his daughter Rahnerya. So far, it seems the show has followed the storyline really well, with only a few added dramatics. At first the book was hard to read because it does read like a history book with little dialogue, but now I'm hooked.
