Clean, precise prose. I expected arty, hippy-ish writing. I liked the simplicity of the writing. the bear is like her friend. Sedate, observant writing until half way through where the main character is starting to feel restless about fleeing her personal eden. Might descend into crazy woman in the woods book now.

A very elegant book. Which is an impressive description of a book that is known for bestiality. It almost feels like a love story when Lou thinks she's in love with a bear. The bear is given an almost anthropomorphic kind of agency that Lou realizes later is a projection of her loneliness. One of the better books about Canadians going nuts in the woods/wilderness.
