The main Narrator is grateful. He asked for a black leather jacket ;however ,he got a day old guacamole looking jacket. After he put it on his bed and examined it for a while he finally put it on and he "went outside smiling a thank you" to his mom. This shows hes care about his mothers feelings. If he really wanted to he could have asked his mom to work something out to get a new one.
