Not really the book I had expected from the title. I thought it was about how mistresses influenced either politics or fashion.
It mentioned a lot of names; it seems to expect you to know certain ones.
Just read a sentence that made my eyes roll: the part about “when a woman is a mother” “if her children come first the man whom she loves knows that she is a true woman”.
