Daisy Miller was alright, now I am reading Washing Square and I keep confusing it with the Age of Innocence and thinking of Daniel Day-Lewis and Winona Ryder as the characters, which is screwing things up.

Turn of the Screw--did he really like this? It's so...fun! This can't be the same guy.

Okay, I think I will skip ahead to Turn of the Screw and consider my education in the short works of Henry James complete.

Kind of liked Washington Square. Definitely into Aspern Papers.

Ashamed to say i have never read James. I am reading Daisy Miller first. Because it's the first one in the book.

I am reminded, while reading this, how all the people I knew in grad school who were into James were insufferable "writer" types. Like, it was all about the craft and not the content. He's kind of a judgy little shite, isn't he? It's like less sympathetic Wharton (who I love).
Dad was super into James in grad school...bwahaha. He also had a thing for the 18Th C I just don't get. I think he liked James's oral quality.
But yeah, James fans are a little loony.

Yeah, I don't hate it or anything, the writing is of course good, but there's just this twinge of pettiness about his descriptions that I don't love. I can see being into the "Long 18th Century"--there's some good (and ZOMFG WEIRD) shit there.
True, but Johnson? Barf.
I think what I don't like about 18C is the poetry, even though yeah, lots of ZOMFG weird to go around, and sometimes i like that. Give me the Romantics any day of the week.
