We later learn that "Y.T." is precisely 15 years younger than Protagonist, who we know is 30 and infer is the same age as Juanita Marquez, since they met during their freshman year of college.

The prose grabs you by the nostrils and slings you into a hyper-kinetic future of samurai-wearing pizza delivery drivers and suburban city-states. This is so different from Anathem as to seem to be written by an alter-ego.
