This came out FIVE YEARS ago???????

The end of this one is so bleak which is why I always start my Twilight rereads with it 😭

The more I reread this, the more sure I am that this needed a ton of editing. Meyer was super self-indulgent to write most of this, which is fair, and I did enjoy seeing every facet of the detail when I read it the first time. However, this needed a lot of deleting and shaving down. So many scenes or internal monologues were unnecessary. I still had fun at the end tho. High speed car chases are 10/10. 3 stars.

So this dragged a lot more than I imagined it would on the third read! While it’s so cool to be inside of Edward’s head, I really feel the more I read this one that the editor and Stephenie herself should’ve gone at this massive beast with a hacksaw. It’s longer than Breaking Dawn somehow (or at least the audiobook is). Although bleak, I still had fun and I’m excited to dive into the OG series! 3.5 stars.

When rereading, some parts of this book drag quite a bit which wasn’t as noticeable on the first read. This chapter where he asks Bella all his questions, for instance, is pretty boring and seems to do very little in the way of advancing the plot 😅

Dang, this was so much fun! Of course, Meyer is a problematic author in general. She 100% should have donated her proceeds of this book to the tribe she appropriated.

Still, it was fun to revisit this world as an adult with fresh eyes. Jake Abel’s narration was excellent and, once he hit his stride, his voice was so engrossing and embodied Edward (at times, even reminiscent of Robert Pattinson’s Edward).

I started my first reread of this on 1/14/22. It is my first experience with the audiobook and I’m loving it! Jake Abel was previously associated with Meyer from his role in the Host, and now his narration is suiting this audiobook really well! I was iffy on him when it first began, but the more I listen, the more he settles into his role and the better he gets. I just cannot put this down.

Aw man. This Edward and Esme bonding moment is the sweetest thing 😢
