reading this book has become a chore. Patricia has two moods: down and down-er. nothing brings her joy even before things start going horribly wrong. at least the protagonists of Wuthering heights and return of the native had passion. and it's not just her, seemingly everyone around her is unhappy, or at best experiencing ennui. the evening news is more uplifting.
