Why do I keep picking up these badly edited books?
So she’s not from Savannah, she’s from Charleston, except it sometimes says she’s from Savannah because maybe at one point she was and the author changed it because of the character named Savannah but didn’t catch all the mentions of the city? I dunno… splurge on an fucking editor ffs. SMH.

I think it was a mistake to have one character named Savannah and one character FROM Savannah. It’s freaking confusing. I don’t know if we are talking about the character or the place.

“Día de la Muertos event”

For a book that’s centred around this Mexican holiday, she should probably check how to spell it. It’s used wrong 13 times in this book.
Día de los muertos. Plural.

Why do authors think a guy calling out your name when with another woman is romantic? It’s gross. For everyone involved.
😤

Urg, this author has not fixed her writing issues. PICK A NARRATION AND STAY IN IT.
I can’t even rant in highlights because I am reading this in Scribd.

Rae (semi-hiatus) Grits!? Omg! You need to try them, theyre sooo good! It’s basically a type of porridge made from cornmeal. You can doctor it up with butter and S&P or just some sugar 🤤🤤🤤

RLbooks (in and out) Cheese grits are the best. But yeah, what Rae said and they can be sweet or more savory.

Rae (semi-hiatus) Cheesy grits 😍
Shrimp and grits! 😍🤤

Kristina That’s what made me wonder, in this book the woman is putting shrimp and garlic on them and I thought they were like cream of wheat or oatmeal both of which are only good with maple syrup or brown sugar and fruit. I did not know they were savoury to eat for dinner.
The more you know 🌈 💫

Rae (semi-hiatus) This made me hungry and I have some grits so imma be on my merry way to makin my dinner.
You should try shrimp and grits.
Or savory grits. Yummy. 10/10

Kristina I don't think I can buy grits around here. All the recipes I looked up say ‘packaged grits’ in the ingredients. Oh well, I will have to wait and imagine them like polenta.

Rae (semi-hiatus) Fried polenta is yummy lol
I can’t believe y’all don’t have em except for the packaged stuff ☹️
Speaking of grits, have you seen My Cousin Vinny?

Kristina We don’t have the packaged stuff. I was googling recipes that called for that and we don’t have it. I googled where can I get grits in Canada and it gave me US websites that will ship with duty charges…DUTY! Lol. It’s a sad situation. 😢 I can’t wrap my head around shrimp with oatmeal but I trust you if you say they are good.

Kristina I have seen that movie…

Rae (semi-hiatus) Ohh. It’s nothing like oatmeal lol. Different texture and flavor.
This just reminded me of the scene in that grill discussing grits, no other reason I brought it up 😂

Kristina So they don’t have them in New York either I guess. 😃
Is it like creamed corn?
Or is it just something that is it’s own thing?

message 12: by Thirstygirl (new)

Thirstygirl I made cheese grits recently. I can't eat them bc corn allergy but my daughter enjoyed them quite a bit. I don't think they are available everywhere, but the Quaker Oats brand sells them if that helps.

Kristina One day I will find these magical America grits you speak of, I will make them with cheese curds and gravy and name them Poutits. The people of Canada will rejoice and name me Queen!

Rae (semi-hiatus) Def not like creamed corn. That is a separate delicious-ness It's hard to describe, they kinda taste like a mix of cornbread and porridge, thick and creamy.

Poutits lmao

Kristina Thank goodness you got my joke. 😮‍💨
I love cornbread and corn. What’s not to love? 🌽

Rae (semi-hiatus) I wish we could do poutine or disco fries right 😩

Kristina What are disco fries.. sounds interesting.
Poutine is not a fave of mine, but I’m a weirdo who is very close to losing my Canadian citizenship for non compliance.

Rae (semi-hiatus) What we call poutine lol yeehaw
but...fries...gravy...cheese...and don't you dislike hockey too? Kristina...smh

Kristina I know *ashamed*
I also hate Drake, Tim Hortons, peameal bacon and ryan reynolds.
Kidding I love Ryan reynolds, he’s delightful.

Rae (semi-hiatus) Ryan Reynolds is okay the rest can go, including y'all mixed bag of chip flavors lol. I just googled peameal bacon ☹️

Kristina Canadian bacon. I refuse to call it that. I don’t eat pork though because pigs are friends not food. and all dressed chips are available in the USA now, you’re welcome. 😛

Rae (semi-hiatus) Ohhh really? Never heard it called that (pea meal). A pic I saw had cornmeal around it?
America really just adding on reasons to gtfo 😖

Kristina Ya. Like grits and bacon together on a sandwich.
Ok so more questions because of this book… is Texas not considered to be in the south? Because in this book the woman is from Georgia but living in Texas and they keep calling her southern as a differentiated factor from the other women around her…. But wouldn’t they all be southern? I’m so confused.
Also what is queso?

Rae (semi-hiatus) Texas is definitely part of the south. But there’s always gotta be “rivalry” bw states. Texans always think they’re special. Also, Texas is massive and diverse, north TX is very different from South TX in terms of language, culture, feel, etc.
Queso means cheese in Spanish. But it’s just hot melted cheese served with chips you can get at every Mexican restaurant. Have you…not had chips and queso?

Kristina Uh… I’ve had nachos with melted cheese. I’ve had salsa and guac and bean dip. I just asked my husband and this is a me thing. He knew what it was and looked at me like I was crazy. Lol.
Must be like French Canada. All the different frenchies argue that they are more French than the other . If someone accidentally calls my husband a Québécois he will break out his lecture on French Canada and 12 hours later everyone knows about the settling of lower and upper Canada. 😴
It’s weird that cheese is such a big part of so many cultures. It’s a unifier. World peace could be achieved by everyone agreeing to try each other’s national cheese dish.

message 26: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra Oh yaaassss. I love cheese. #cheese4worldpeace

Rae (semi-hiatus) I’m supremely pleased you’ve had nachos and guacamole.
Cheese will unite us all 🧀👑🙏🏻

Kristina It’s unifying and constipating at the same time. All hail cheese.
And did you read that whole comment thread? I applaud you. 😂

Kristina I’ve been to Mexico and had it at the source. Good stuff.
Also nachos and cheese is served at all hockey rinks in Canada for some reason. That pump cheese and those rounds nachos. Not good.. another reason to dislike hockey.

Rae (semi-hiatus) Next to Thai food, Mexican food is my fav 🇲🇽🫔😍
😧 I refuse to even call that cheese lol

Kristina It’s American cheese. 🤭
I like Mexican food too. Thai food is awesome too. Vietnamese and Korean…pretty much the whole Asian continent can feed me any day of the week. Except no sushi…and not because of the fish but because of the seaweed wrap.
Wait, is there cheese in Asian food? I think not. How will we achieve world peace now? Noooooooooo!
I’m descended into the absurd. Must sleep.

Rae (semi-hiatus) Uhhhhh yessss. 🙌🏻
No cheese isn’t popular in Asia 😮‍💨
Me too.. goodnight 💤

message 33: by Thirstygirl (new)

Thirstygirl Mr. Thirsty is Vietnamese. I can't recall his mom using any cheese unless she makes something American. 🤔 Koreans have a thing for Mozzarella. They make "corn cheese" or even put it on ramen.
