There's alot more to this story than what's in the movie. It's fascinating to read the details of existential foreboding, creeping into the character's lives. Spiritual entities are becoming manifest.

It would be an incredible experience to have read this before the movie came out in 1971-1974. Luckily the movie and pop-culture hasn't removed all the mystery from the novel, and there's plenty of horror, adjacent to the main plot, that's unique to this novel.
