I'm not a fan of writers who run a story line choppy like this one. It goes from the Yard to a second narrative of Emily the daughter. I can't help but feel this book either should've been written from her perspective alone or just written through De Quincey himself or the detective Ryan. I'm not liking how it jumps back and forth. I can keep up with it but it's just irritating.

6 years ago I closed this book never expecting to return to it. Here I am today, stuck on chapter 12, and I can really care less about the murderer. It’s a chapter from his perspective and I don’t know what in the world it has to do with the story. It’s so uninteresting and although I am curious to read on just to finish this book so I can read the next one in line, I’m struggling to get through this chapter.

I don't know why but this book just irritates me yet kept me reading until just now I asked myself why am I wasting my time when I could be reading really good books instead? Enough.
