I’m impressed with Penn’s cover design, her detail and her focus on the plot. But she writes with such economy of words and simplicity that it doesn’t hold my interest. She’s successful and I see why but the work seems formulaic and whether you skim or read closer it seems like the story has the same value.

The suspense begins and we have two characters thrown together unexpectedly as allies.

Pretty graphic human sacrifice to start and then the next chapter is a long conversation
