I've been slowly reading through Shaun Hutson's bibliography. I read a few as a kid but now I'm casting my 50 year old eyes over his work and I've enjoyed pretty much every blood soaked, bodily fluid drenched page of the 5 books I've read so far.
His ability to shock is commendable. And on page 24 of this current read he's done it again. How is that going to feature in the upcoming movie?

One minute, I'm feeling extremely sympathetic towards Amy and David. The next, I'm finding them rather unlikable. They have, and still are, going through a lot, but their bickering and sarcasm towards each other is annoying.
I should add that this book has passages that are incredibly tough to read. The violence towards kids is unflinching and unapologetic. Peak Hutson.

The last thing I'd expect from Shaun Hutson would be a slow burn tale of grief and relationships
120 pages in, that's exactly what we have. Admittedly, interjected every few pages are some of the most grotesque violence I've read in a while.
Fingers crossed the pace picks up

Bleak, incredibly dark, highly controversial and superbly written.
25% into this book I'm not sure how this can be adapted to a movie. But it is, by Shaun himself. I'm keen to see how it comes out but rest assured it's not going to be pleasant.
