I did. Although I think I would have enjoyed it even more if I had done some research on Tourette's before reading. See, that's the first I ever heard of it, and I couldn't fully appreciate the seriousness and the impact of the condition on the person affected (I did some reading afterwards and even watched some documentaries on YouTube, so I have a better idea now).Plus, even though my English is quite good, I had to consult a dictionary quite often (something I almost never do when I read fiction:-)
The language in that book is very rich! I think that's why I enjoyed it so much. It's been some years since I've read it, but I seem to remember a lot of word play and diverse vocabulary. It's also interesting what you write about Tourette's syndrome. I'm not especially familiar with it, either, but there have been enough documentaries and articles about it that that aspect of the book made sense to me. I can only imagine what it would be like to read the book without knowing!
Well, I sort of knew, but very little, just the basic facts that I read on the Wikipedia when I first tried to listen to the audiobook a few years back. Many things seemed... far-fetched? made up? And no, I haven't seen any documentaries on the Russian TV. Maybe because I don't watch Russian TV. Or any TV, for that matter...
