"He’d have to get her to agree, of course; he couldn’t very well force her into marriage. She’d probably come up with countless reasons why it was a mad idea, but in the end, he’d convince her.
They would marry."
Have I mentioned I hate this man? How can Quinn think that once we are privy to this man's inner thoughts we could still consider him to be a worthy romantic interest??

"“Will you kiss me, Francesca?” he asked. She shook her head. (...) “Will you let me kiss you?” he whispered. She didn’t move. (...) “Will you kiss me, Francesca?” he asked again. She swayed. And he knew she was his."
She shook her head - as in NO. Then she swayed - and as we all know swaying is the number one way a girl can have fun without taking her clothes off. Remind me to never sway in public ever again

"He’d made love to her in part to force her hand [to marry him] —he couldn’t get around that unsavory fact" our hero everybody...

"But Francesca would come around, he was fairly certain of that. She’d have to. She’d been compromised—quite thoroughly, he thought with some measure of satisfaction."
Ladies and gentlemen, our love interest. What a nice lad isn't he.

"But she wanted him. He could hear it in her breath."
A new form of consent has just dropped ladies!! And it's called the body's irrepressible need for oxygen (but make it sexy)

"But if he made her his, left his imprint on her in the most physical way possible, he would be with her always.
And she would be his."
Is this romantic to someone? Is this sexy to anyone? If yes, good for you, but I read about this possessive sentiment simply one too many times. Why must all men think that sex is the one thing that binds a relationship? Why Julia??

I can now pinpoint one of the (many) issues I've been having with these books since book 2 - the characters' dialogues are super fake. They talk to each other as if they knew what the other is thinking about and they say it out loud for them - because of course the author knows what the characters think at all times, and this is her way of showing that they're soul mates or whatever... So jarring

“Probably. I’ll be at death’s door by Saturday, I’m sure.” says the man to the widow who had lost her husband to a simple headache.
This is supposed to be a funny line, but methinks Ms. Quinn forgot to consider the implications of the witty banter she wanted her characters to have. Sigh... one second they are still grieving the next they're flirting - make it make sense because I can't
