Lartéguy is an interesting writer. A little cliché, but I find it interesting how many of his turns of phrase and sentiments appear in the discourse around the Iraq and Afghan wars here in the states. Some of these ideas are universal given how war has changed everywhere, but his ideas are doubtlessly replicated and refined in The Centurions, which was widely read by elements of the U.S forces in the last decades.
