I used to read a lot of McEwan's work, but stopped after On Chesil Beach in 2007. One title too many? The subject matter of his books taking a direction away from my interests (or the other way around)? I don't remember.
When visiting my parents over Christmas me and my dad talked books, exchanging the physical piles of books built up over a few months. With a copy of 'Lessons' on top. It's really good so far.

I've had a tricky relationship with McEwan for years. At university my housemate and I swore to read all his books just to hate on him (we were young and arrogant). In the process, I actually read a few of his novels which I thought were very good. Others I actively despise. His work swings drastically from one to the other for me.
