Okay - let's see if I've got this straight. The heroine and her sister have just been taken into the fashionable home of a COMPLETE stranger. Not a friend of their mother's or some distant relation - a TOTAL STRANGER. Unless it's a gingerbread house and she's sporting some really long fingernails, facial hair and warts, I can't see how that's normal behaviour!

This is going along faster now I've stopped grinding my teeth at each tortuous sentence or historical inaccuracy. I have enough ammunition for my review!

I always thought I had Av reasonably good command of the English language, but WTH is a "treacle dream"? As in "she looked as delicious as a treacle dream"? Is it a euphemism?!

Good God, the language in this is tortuous. It's like a kid trying to write something formal by using big words, but having no idea what they mean or how to use them correctly.
eg. "His mother wished for grandchildren, despite he was not reticent in his announcement he'd no wish to settle down."
FFS. *looks to see how long this damn book is.*
