Listened to the 2 CD dramatisation by the BBC, which abridges this brilliant book. This is an excellent introduction to this long Sci-fi novel which has always been one of the most intelligent and interesting novels I have read.
This could be abridged too far (sorry!) because it misses out so, so much of the story in all its richness. It must have been a big task to know how to approach abridging and do it will.

Good but not as good as the book, in the case of Left Hand of Darkness, anyway.
Having got so far, I seem to have ground to a halt on finishing LHoD and transitioning to The Earthsea Trilogy, which I haven't read in years. More a young adult book, certainly far less mature than my favourite Sci-fi, Left Hand of Darkness.
Still, I'll get there at some stage!!

There is also appears to be a shorter version of this dramatisation which doesn't include the 3 Wizard of Earthsea books. Published on the same day, apparently, they are both BBC dramatisations.
