It's crazy how Ishmael lost his humanity. He no longer said "this is a human being like me." He said, "This is a rebel, like the ones who burned my family." I am so surprised to see him addicted to murder and drugs, a horrible combination, and he's only a teenager.

I am confused. How did Ishmael and his friends escape? I thought they were in the army. I need clarification, becaus eI don't want my confusion to mess up my understanding of the book's plot.

I've just started reading this book, but I'm already starting to notice 2 things. 1. The author, Ishamel Beah rights in a similar fashion to someone at the age. 2. Ishamel seems to want to please his friends...Hmm, I wonder if this wil come back later.
