I’m not enjoying how it’s written so far, it’s trying to do too many things all at once: 1. Describe township living in South Africa 2. Introduce characters 3 introduce the theme of inequality — I don’t know what’s important about the story just yet. Also the writing is too simplified, and nobody talks like the characters in this book.

I judged this book early on. I’m still grappling with who this book is targeted at. But it’s worth noting that it is neither character-driven, nor plot-driven (definitely not plot-driven); but it is uniquely “place-driven.” It is a story about a place through the experiences of it’s people. This leaves some of the characters underdeveloped, but it does give you a glimpse of Alex in a way rarely written
