I don't really get why some authors complain about gif-filled reviews. Maybe it's because I'm technically challenged and get confused enough posting pics to GR, but I'm like, "Wow, someone took the time to find the right gif and post it on a review about my book? That's AWESOME!"
And that goes for all reviews, not just the Sterek fanfic. Even though Sterek gifs are their own reward.

It annoys me sometimes when I'm on my phone because the gifs drain the 4G. But I avoid my newsfeed on my phone so meh.

Yeah, I don't use the GR app on my phone, but that's mostly because it's crap. I do all my GRing (that's a word now) from home. :)
Haha. I don't always have access to the internet at home so sometimes I can only respond to readers during my lunch breaks at work or while out. My work has wifi so that's not an issue usually, but elsewhere...blahhh.I don't think gifs are a problem intrinsically, though.they can add a dash of panache to a review. But I suppose as with anything else that it's a matter of taste.
Thank god for free work internet! Although some of the stuff I click on, I'm expecting a stern talking to from HR any day now.
No regrets!
Lol ikr. Some of the stuff i have to research for my books...it's amazing the NSA hasn't come busting down my door.
I love gif reviews too. Hats off to reviewers who do it all the time. It is VERY time consuming. Did my first one for Don't Fail Me Now Only for Peter would I do it for.
I know! I can barely post a single picture in a review, let alone track down a gazillion appropriate gifs. I do love them though.

Gif reviews can be wickedly smart and witty. I like them. I see no problem with them, but then again, I do my "GRing" (thanks for the new verb) from my computer, and not my phone.
Gif reviews are getting a bad rep for being often unsubstantial, but they are a great tool. So many times, I just scroll down reviews, reading first sentence and continue, but gifs are eye-catchy; I always pause to check them up. In hands of creative person they can be great way to convey how someone feels about book. Like everything else in life, it's awful when it's overdone.(except, nutella, you can never overdone nutella.)
I agree with everything you say, Lege. Especially about nutella! @Catherine, Hooray! I made a word! Watch your back, Shakespeare! I'm catching you!
.gif reviews take time and effort - why would any author complain about them? They do slow down page loading, but so what? Thank you readers, for any review.
I like seeing what readers find and post in positive reviews of all kinds, although I do worry about the ones that flash enough to trigger seizures. I'm a little less fond of the puking/gagging ones in the occasional negative review. They are expensive (and unpredictable) for people paying for their Internet use by download volume - a lot of people do use their phone and extra GB use gets pricey fast. I think the ideal would be if there was a "Hide .gifs" option for people who don't want to see them.
And people with epilepsy. Yeah. I'm not aware that it's on the horizon here, although I wonder if there's a way to do it through your own computer settings if you really cared...
Oh lawdy... Lisa, I wuv you *blows kiss*And BTW, not just authors. Whilst gobbling lunch, I stumbled onto the latest [...] 'whhhhyyyyyyyy?!'

Oh wow... Hey, I'm sure that under all that angry entitlement, she actually had a point. There possibly should at least be an option where users can turn off pics and gifs. But talk about how to win friends and influence people!
:)
one would think that with the millions of options available that an author would be thrilled with a review period whether it be 'standard' or a little more colorful. someone took the time to give two shits about your work. unclinch yeah?

And, like I said, I'm a total technophobe and literally only learned how to post gifs a few days ago. When people post them in reviews of my stuff it's like MAGIC!

IDK. IIRC, she rejected even that option (still too PITA to scroll past hidden IMGs/GIFs/etc). Bottom line (IMHO), she was spouting her intellectual 'superiority' or whatever by lamenting lack of same in reviews w/ images in tunnel-blind and narrow-minded fashion. GD, the utter logic fail... x___x

Seriously, if you don't like gif reviews, don't read them. It's not rocket science.

IKR? Man, oh man, she raised hackles right outta gate. LOL, I didn't think that it was rocket science but... *smh*
More importantly, happy Autumn!!
