Part whodunit, part historical tale(about an arguably dark period in history) smith does an outstanding job transporting the reader to soviet era Russia under Stalin. Hard to fathom he didn't use creative license with some situations, but I have an idea it may have even been worse than he describes

Very dense book, so much has happened with a few twists and turns. I would say pretty heavy for a novel that was marketed as a thriller(I think it was anyhow) but very entertaining either despite or because it's not a "popcorn" read

Have been reading this real slow, good writing but I keep making comparisons to Gorky Park which is probably unfair to child 44
