So much better reading with the guide to translate and explain the obscure references for me. Slows my reading pace down to crawl, but the suspense is both delicious and torturous. How is Lymond going to escape Threve???

I've escaped ....even the Duke of Exeter's daughter Thanks to my guidebook, I learned this is a nickname for the rack.

Not exactly a quick read, cause this book is way smarter than I am, but I am enjoying every word. This is from page 163.
"Babies bounced and abounded in the Scott household: babies with mouths round and adhesive as lampreys; babies like Pandean pipes, of diminishing size and resonant voice;babies rendering torture and catalysis among the animate, the inanimate and the comatose."
