I can't help but wonder, in the examination of Hatshepsut's ever-morphing public image, whether she might not have begun at some point, possibly to identify as non-binary, but the artists who rendered her commissioned images couldn't really succeed at portraying this correctly because the world was viewed through such a strictly binary lense that they couldn't conceive of any other possibility
