Felipe Arraño 1st November 1950, a bomb exploded at the Puerto Rican government offices in New York; one hour later in Washington, DC, two Puerto Ricans attempted to kill President Truman (p. 393). It was the first assassination attempt to a President in the US since 1933, when was Roosevelt (p. 394). Truman’s belief strikes at one source of the efficacy of assassination; the killings only matter if the person matters (p. 397). Dallas, 22 November 1963, President John Fitzgerald Kennedy was shot (p. 398). Two hours after the shooting, Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn in as the new President (p. 399). Lee Harvey Oswald, assassin, was arrested only 80 minutes after the shooting; two days later he was shot and killed by Jack Ruby when he was being moved to a jail (p. 400). The assassination inaugurated a period of discord in the political life for nearly 20 years (p. 400). Events that led to the assassination are not settled and several conspiracy theories exist (p. 401). Oswald’s background (pp. 405-406). According to Oswald’s wife, he tried to kill Walker and killed Kennedy just to be famous and get into history (p. 406). Keneddy’s achievements (pp. 408-409). Origen to the practice of brainwashing (p. 419). The USA people had been brainwashed into accepting violence and destruction (p. 423).
