As other reviewers have noted, the first third of this is engaging, if slow. But I find myself increasingly annoyed by Esme's lack of personality. She's supposed to be 24 and still acts and thinks the same as she did at 6? Some naivety could be expected from a young woman at this time, but she seems to have the same perspective as her childhood self. Hopefully I'm wrong and it gets better.
