Only reading this because I really want to read Six of Crows and my weird reading personality is that I can't just pick up stories from the same universe without reading everything that comes before.

I'm exactly the same. Unfortunately I learned this the hard way. I entered the Grisha-verse with Six of Crows and was thoroughly lost. I only realised that I should have read 'Shadow and Bone' *after* pushing through Six of Crows ...

Did you go back and read the trilogy? It has surprisingly got me hooked - fast-paced and very little waffling (which is usually what I expect from the genre). There's also quite a bit that is different from the series.
I was just thinking about that last night! I am currently watching S2 of Shadow and Bone and I'm suddenly remembering things from Six of Crows. I definitely want to reread 'Six of Crows' after 'Shadow and Bone'. Think I will appreciate it now having a better understanding of the Grisha-verse...
