They arrived at Ravka to meet this “client” at last. When they were close to the location on the Hummingbird, Sturmhond ordered the sailors to continue moving. Alina and Mal panicked. They had been tricked and were instead heading for the Shadow Fold. When in the Fold, Sturmhond wanted to go to the volca nest instead of going straight out of this dangerous darkness. Mal and crew agreed for the fun of it.

Feydor and his crew join the Second Army led by the new commander, Alina. Alina and Feydor talk throughout the night and she learns chaos was unleashed when they were on the Verrhader. Alina and Nikolai continue to work together to get him the throne from his brother. When they arrive at Os Atla the next morning, they meet Vasily Lantsov and head towards the throne room. In the throne room, Alina is forgiven not Mal.

Nikolai and Alina are on their way to Os Alta to complete their plan and deal. On the way there, they get closer and surprisingly, Nikolai kissed Alina to show the people they had power and to give hope. Alina is trusting Nikolai for now, but Mal isn’t at all. Alina was trying to escape Ravka by heading west with a crew. However, the Darkling caught up to them and captured them on Sturmhond’s ship. The Sea Whip was wanted by the Darkling and ordered Mal to track it or torture was upon Alina and his death. He found it after 6 days. On the 6th day, Sturmhond betrayed the Darkling and took the whip with his crew towards Ravka Alina has the second amplifier andwants the 3rd

Alina couldn’t hold her light surrounding the Hummingbird for a moment because, suddenly, the Darkling appeared. Or so she thought. No one paid attention to him. She lost balance of her power and the lights went out as the Darkling disappeared. Alina was shaking, she didn’t know what happened. As a result, volca came in and attacked some of the crew members, a squaller, who was controlling the steadiness of the flying ship, especially. They struggled to leave the Fold and almost didn’t make it out. They did and the ship crashed on impact. When everyone gained back their consciousness and was healed, Sturmhond’s appearance didn’t look like himself. Alina and Mal didn’t know who he was. An explanation was needed. Sturmhond revealed himself as Nikolai, the second heir to the throne in front of guards that were nearby. Everyone, except some of the trusted crew members was shocked. Alina and Mal were taken to a tent to compose themselves and this allowed them to think about who the captain they have been traveling with was truly. All of a sudden, he arrived at the tent, wanting to talk. He explained who he was, how he’d become Sturmhond, how people thought he was at school, and, finally, the offer. The offer was for Alina to help him create some kind of hope for the people to destroy the Fold from expanding and to help him become king with the appearance of the Sun Summoner. This would be done by becoming his Queen. Mal got all upset, as usual. Sturmhond explained even further to him that it would be a political alliance that would be good for the country. Alina states that she isn’t going to marry him, but instead will return to Os Alta and give the people hope. She claims that she wanted to find a way to help and rebuild Ravka. She’ll make a bid for the throne. HOWEVER, wants to be commander of the Second Army. She convinced Nikolai. Mal is contemplating his purpose, after everything he has done for her, he is still a second prioritization. Alina decides she’s going to take a stand and make a declaration of war to defeat the Darkling once and for all.
