"Despite these blessings, sometimes Dex could not sleep. In those hours, they frequently asked themself what it was they were doing. They never truly felt like they got a handle on that. They kept doing it all the same"

It's so fun, my teacher lent me this, and it has his annotations. So neat to see how certain lines will impact everyone, and which ones we both find relatable

"It would corrode until it collapsed. That was the most it would achieve. Its only legacy was to persist where it did not belong. "

Its sentiments like this that make me appreciate this book so much. The subtle connections it draws between humanity and nature, the ways it is so emotionally poignant yet also easy to read. It always feels like a targeted hug, and I love it so much

"I think there's something beautiful about being lucky enough to witness a thing on its way out"

I love the dichotomies this is exploring. Like, we have the beauty of death only a page after the fear of death is so deeply explored. It's human nature at its most vulnerable, and it's so beautiful to read

"Sometimes, a lesson reaches a point in their life when it becomes absolutely necessary to get the fuck out of the city"

I can already tell I'm gonna love this
