There is this one guy, a porn star (his own channel, never worked for another company) I remember watching him when I was in high school. I was shocked to find him almost 10 years later. His channel had boomed. He's clearly paying the girls he is with a decent amount of money. What was touching to me is how obviously respectful (yet rough😛) he was to the girls. He had girls lining up to do a scene with him.

And it is interesting to see that dynamic change with adulthood - there is this frisson with childhood friends to lovers to separation to meet as adults again. This is one of my favorite tropes if done well

Part of it that the author is doing well is capturing the childhood friends dynamic. They were so close for so long they bicker like an old married couple/siblings.
This isn't always a healthy relationship thing. I have a childhood friend and we were like that - so close from such an early age and would bicker, point out flaws, gaslight. I'll give the author credit for capturing this

I'm honestly v. annoyed with Tyler. He's gaslighting Jemma. He's the one who broke up with her, why shouldn't she feel hurt? Even resentful? And if he feels so bad about doing porn...just quit? Him accusing her of being vindictive is out of line.

The porn star I watched in high school and is still going strong? I was kind of sad to see that he seems like he might be a good guy, but what kind of emotionally intimate relationships has he experienced if he's doing this for over a decade? He really is respectful to the girls.. I try to be sex positive but I wouldn't be interested in a person who has done porn for a decade as a serious partner

In one doc I watched, it interviewed an old, retired male porn star. Because he lasted so long in his career, he never had a long-term, successful relationship. There was this scene in the doc of him watching his fav porn scene when he was in his twenties, reliving his youth. It was sad & pathetic.
I've met plenty of happy strippers but porn seems more hazardous. Even for men who financially benefit more.

...Like, they were clearly excited. So he had developed this good reputation over many years. I wonder how much money he makes and if he's invested into anything else. What stands out to me is how you never see women last that long in the industry.

The higher end strip clubs protect the girls too, have cameras in VIP rooms, strict rules for no "extras" - from what I've read the porn industry seems to be more exploitative of women. If I was to read a heroine who was a porn star, I'd rather her have her own monetized amateur channel or something - those women seem to be better off mentally. Safer, more autonomy/control
