a new favorite author. this is one of the lushest prose I’ve ever read. it has a sense of warmth, and intimacy, and depth that I have not encountered since reading Gabriel Garcia Marquez. The love for the county, the respect for its voice, is immense.
I hear that ‘Tree’ is considered the weakest in this saga. If THIS is the weakest, my god am I excited to explore what F. Sionil Jose has put in store for me.
