They are forcing their kids into a way of life that will leave them borderline incapable of meshing with society when they're older. If they want to do things that involve a college education, they will be screwed educationally and socially.

I simply cannot imagine how off-the-grid parents who encourage excessive independence in their young children could POSSIBLY result in a child with poor social skills with little interest in other people.
