I love how the chorus opens with an invocation to the muse and also one to the audience. He asks us to ‘willingly suspend our disbelief’, use our imaginary forces to deck the walls and the kings with greatness. To consider that one figure may represent a million men, and that years took place in hours. It’s also a way to remind the audience this is fiction, not political commentary. It’s a brilliant opening
