Amalgamation was finally mentioned, if only once in passing. The author has the incessant need to say the same thing every time the ships jump into an enemy system. I understood the first time 15 books ago that it was possible, however unlikely for them to be ambushed when jumping into a system. It's literally copy pasted throughout the past 15 books multiple times each. Nothing more than filler to inflate word count

Okay so far, what happened to amalgamation? Too much focus was put on that in the last book for it not to be at least acknowledged in this one. Plus, it is a number of years after the events in the previous book so one would expect it to be well on the way to being completed. We'll see what happens farther along
