Really interesting how the author has mixed and matched cultural influences despite this being largely based on precolonial Tagalog society. Pineapples, 'hour' as a unit of time, and the concept of 'mano' exist (IRL these came to the Philippines only via Spanish colonization); various Tagalogs are tattooed (WHS claimed Tagalogs didn't tattoo themselves). Not criticizing, I'm just finding it interesting.
