DNFing since i haven’t picked it up & don’t feel compelled to finish it.

enchanting opening that unfortunately falls flat despite how beautifully written it is. i felt the characters were one dimensional and essentially copy pasted. i was bored by how everyone would just sit around drinking and smoking when there was nothing particularly profound about that.

The group discusses that pain is our most unique experience one that will never be fully shared with anyone. but is this not the same for joy and love? we think our feelings of love are equally reciprocated yet how can we know for sure? we simply can’t. perhaps this focus on pain as a unique experience is perpetuated by our unwillingness to share it with others.

i am so glad i never read this in middle/high school it would have made me infinitely more obnoxious to be around
