Reread6/23 about us. Just as Adhara wrote, it’s only partly disinfo and disinterest rampant in white communities. We keep a lot under wraps. Understandably. For most of our history, secrets have meant safety. In some ways they still do. Mostly, white people know nothing about us, even translating our facial expressions is tricky. Maya Angelou wrote a poem about it the uses of our laughter alone. 🤔

I I had a nickel for the number of times someone has expressed their disgust over an incident of bigotry, only to turn around bd express their own…

I’m not expected to still curry favor w/ them. To feel like I should court their good opinion.
I’m not expected to pretend like they didn’t just say that thing they said. The bigot might expect, or hope for it. After all, it’s a ‘known fact’. I lose no social capital by doing so. In fact, it’s likely people, bigot included will respect my keeping it a hundred. Most white people live in opposite land

Lord. Whiteness is a mess. This book is like a crash course in it. As a black person it never occurs to me to think about what it’s like to be a part of a demographic that includes bigotry as a part of its social structure.
I’m not expected to leave the bigotry of black friends and family alone. I’m not expected to accommodate it, or them and historically, NEVER have been.

Okay. Now his level of stupid is taking me out of the story.
Someone JUST tried to murder him. The ONLY liklies are the HUMAN LEO’s around him. And not only has he not shared this important evidence w/ his partner not only has he not THOUGHT about the evidence he risked his life to get
