yet another example. I LIKE Penny (as a character) I think she's interesting and somewhat atypical from what I normally see. I even enjoy her position in the narrative. Like when the narrative involves her sporadically. But I still don't like Julia and here I don't like how Julia sees Penny which is kind of a weird way to put it. The concept is there the execution isn't.

Okay, the author needs to decide whether this main character is into genre or is not. This entire book. She's been going on and on about how she doesn't care about fantasy and fiction and her social worker friend who died was the one who would have loved that. To the point where bad guys, 2022 is an emotional turning point here apparently? Now suddenly she's a mystery buff. Why hasn't this come up before?

So a lot of books have main characters who are magically good at everything. Even though they think they're awful. This book is not unique in that respect. What? I think this book does well, however, is it chosen main character who is an insta good? She works at things. It feels natural. Everything except her shyness about how useless she must clearly be. That part feels awkward

finally started this in earnest. I should be able to complete it on time. So far I can say.... I don't hate it. I'm really not invested in the world and only minorly invested in the characters. The locations however. Are compelling as are the side characters. Cleanup is kinda untapped as a job.
