Also just realizing that this seems like a self-published book? I'm not 100% sure--it says it was published by "Merrinore Press" but when I look that up the only thing associated with it is this book. Some self published books are great ofc but this one has lots of self-published-book stereotypes--mainly feeling like it needs a lot of editing.

no. just no. I have no sympathy for the Zoya, MC. She doesn't deserve a man as good as Haroun. And I don't even like Haroun, he's just TOO perfect, with a few carefully placed STUPID decisions just for the plot to work. I'm not convinced by the worldbuilding (corporate/CEO of a big company settings/lifestyle) nor the plot nor that Haroun even likes Zoya.

(I have no idea why this is marked as if I'm reading it for the second time; this is the first time I'm reading it and also the last. Goodreads is a mysterious, frustrating website but it's also somehow my comfort website/app lol)

I believe the author is genuinely well intended and her goal is to spread a positive message about Islam. I really do. But when I’m reading a novel, I don’t want to feel like every chapter has its own little khutbah. I don’t want to read about a character who’s so good and perfect and attractive and reliable and successful and super religious and kind and has no flaws. It becomes very tiresome.
