Oh dear, this is getting awkward. If you wanted to turn that relationship romantic, maybe shorten their age gap and have them meet when Latina was a bit older (for example Latina 10 and Dale 15)? And make it clear that both take care of each other from the start (because they're both a mess) so it's a more equal-footing relationship.
Change the title too, while you're at it. Swapping daughter for wife would do it.
