this is compelling as personal narrative but the author has a tendency to make broad sweeping statements based almost entirely on her own experiences which a few times has made me go, “I can think of two or three counter examples just out of the smallish number of people I personally know,” which does blunt the intended effect.

Kaz for me there was so much hypocrisy of first (rightfully) criticising the way journalists portray detransitioned women and then proceeding to portray transmasculine people in the exact same way herself. i found the book extremely patronising

emily there’s a bit very early on where she says (paraphrased) “well the only reason someone would ever identify as a trans man/decide to transition is because they lack the creativity to imagine life as a gnc woman” and I was just like. you know I think a fair number if not most trans men spent a decent amount of time living as/identified as gnc women. your experience is not universal dot jpg
